The show was definitely ahead of it’s time and it was very realistic and raw. It took a lot of convincing from Andre Harrell and other producers to get FOX to green light New York Undercover. Eddie dealt with his own family struggles, including his mother’s illness during the show’s opening season and his father’s struggle with drugs. was raising his son, 'G' (George Gore lll), as a single father in conjunction with ex-girlfriend, Chantel (Fatima Fayole). The events of the characters' lives off the job were just as compelling as the danger they faced in the line of duty while working for the city's Fourth Precinct. For example, detective Williams (Malik Yoba) has to raise his son by himself, while detective Torres (Michael DeLorenzo) has a drug-abusing, HIV-positive father. As well as following the undercover work of a team of cops in New York, New York Undercover also explored their private lives.
